On May 13, 1996, Jack Covert Jr. was an inmate at the Warren Correctional Institution due to a prior conviction from Scioto County for aggravated robbery. On that date, with the hopes of being transferred to the Southern Ohio Correctional Institution he attacked another inmate with a mop handle leaving the victim with issues to his eyesight and ongoing headaches. On February 4, 1997, he was sentenced to a prison term of 6 months to be served consecutive with his current sentence of incarceration out of Scioto County.
