The Prosecutor's Office is most commonly known for its aggressive
handling of felonies. Felonies are crimes that are punished by more than one
year in jail or prison, such as rape, robbery, burglary, and murder. Eleven assistant prosecuting attorneys are assigned to handle these cases: Steven Knippen, John Arnold, Gray Chester, Kevin Hardman, Karl Harris, Teresa Hiett, Adam Kadich, Jennifer Nicholson, Dylan Smearcheck, Amy Tranter, and Travis Vieux. Each attorney is responsible for handling all aspects
of felony prosecutions - from arraignment to trial and sentencing.
In addition to prosecuting felonies in the Court of Common Pleas, the Warren County Prosecutor's Office defends convictions that have been appealed to
the Twelfth District Court of Appeals and to the Ohio Supreme Court. Responsibilities in the appellate area include researching the law, writing "briefs"
(written arguments of law and fact), and oral arguments before the Court. One assistant prosecuting attorney is assigned to handle these cases: Kirsten Brandt.
