Humberto Mota
A549885

In May of 2007, Mota was convicted of murder following a jury trial for his role in killing the victim, and was sentenced to an indefinite period of fifteen years to life in prison. The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on August 26, 2006 at the Mason Pub in Mason, Ohio, where the victim was hanging out with his friend. While at the Mason Pub, the victim and his friend got into an altercation with Mota and several others that eventually turned physical. According to witnesses, the victim was last seen running behind the pub yelling “help me” as he was being pursued by four individuals, one of them being Mota. Subsequently, police officers were dispatched to that location and located the victim lying on the ground behind the pub with his shirt covered in blood suffering from numerous wounds and lacerations. According to the Coroner, the victim ultimately died as a result of sustaining multiple stab wounds. Officers on the scene were eventually able to use a canine to track Mota to a residence nearby where they located two tee-shirts stuffed into the sump pump in the basement which tested positive for the victim’s blood.
