On October 9, 1999, Keith Patterson was purchasing marijuana from two individuals and proceeded to rob them at gunpoint. Patterson shot one of the men in the thigh and the other man in the left shoulder. As a result of bullet to the shoulder, that victim was rendered a quadriplegic and in May 2001, the victim died as a result of spinal cord complications caused by the previous gunshot wound. On November 18, 2002, Patterson entered a plea of guilty to murder (proximate result) and sentenced to 15 years to life through the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. On July 5, 2005, while incarcerated at Warren Correctional Institution, Patterson was found in possession of a shank. Later that year, Patterson pled guilty to attempted possession of a deadly weapon while under detention and sentenced to two years in prison to be served consecutive with his convictions from Montgomery County.
