In 1990, the defendant was indicted for two counts of Rape, one count of Gross Sexual Imposition, and one count of Assault involving an eight year old victim. He was also indicted for the offense of Gross Sexual Imposition against another eight year old Child. The case proceeded to a jury trial and the defendant was found guilty on all counts. Winkle was sentenced to life in prison on count one of the indictment, as well as ten to twenty five years on count two of the indictment as well an additional period of two years, to be served consecutively the sentences imposed in counts one and two and six months concurrent on the assault conviction. These sentences were imposed in order to be served consecutively to the sentence that the defendant was then serving in Preble County for Gross Sexual Imposition.
